Experiential Orientation: Longhorn Discover

TEXPO Longhorn Discover is an experiential orientation program open to 30 incoming students each session. Participants will be introduced to life in Austin--one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Participants will experience life beyond campus by enjoying local foods and exploring city landmarks, including Zilker Park and the Congress Avenue Bats. While learning about life in Austin, students will form strong bonds with their peers, easing the transition to their new “home”.

Day 1


Kickoff Social

Meet other first-year students, Orientation Advisors, and New Student Services staff who will be a part of the program.


Picnic at Zilker Park

Enjoy a picnic at "Austin's most-love park.". This 350-acre recreational area offers Austinites access to a variety of outdoor activities.


Bat Boat Tour

Learn about Austin's skyline, history of the city and our famous Congress Avenue Bats.


Evening Social Programs

Participate in planned nightly activities with first-year students from other TEXPO programs.

Day 2




Keep Austin Weird Hike and Hunt

Seek out Austin quirks through a competitive photo hunt of the city.


Lunch at a Local Restaurant

Enjoy lunch at one of Austin's favorite "foodie" stops with other TEXPO program participants.


Conclusion of Program

Cost: The cost of Longhorn Discover is $95 per student. This fee covers all lodging, transportation, activities, and meals for Longhorn Discover.
