Spring Orientation Information

Spring Orientation is required for incoming freshman and transfer students admitted to The University of Texas at Austin for the spring semester. Our goal is to provide you with the resources you need to succeed academically and find your place in the UT Austin community.

Spring Orientation will take place before classes start for the spring term. All required programming will take place virtually. Optional social opportunities will take place virtually and in-person. Please make plans accordingly so that you can participate in both required and optional programming throughout your session to get the most out of your orientation experience.

Spring Orientation will take place January 6 – 8. Registration for Spring Orientation is now open and will close December 18 at 11:59 p.m. Visit the Spring Registration page to learn more.

You can view the 2025 Schedule-at-a-Glance here.

Spring Orientation is comprised of two parts: pre-orientation Canvas modules (more info below) and your synchronous virtual session. There are optional in-person social opportunities also available during your Spring Orientation programming, as well as in-person experiences that will be part of Spring Welcome.

Preparing for Orientation

Review the pre-orientation checklist to make sure you are prepared for Spring Orientation

DUO Two-Factor Authentication

For security purposes, the University requires that you setup Duo Authentication in order to utilize all UT accounts such as MyStatus, MyUT, UT Zoom, Canvas and the orientation registration system. If you are receiving an error message that says "you are not enrolled due to the Multi-factor Duo Authentication", you must set up Duo authentication.

Canvas Modules

You will need to complete Canvas modules as part of your orientation session. The modules contain helpful resources for academic success, navigating campus life, and health and safety at UT Austin. Modules will be available on December 30 for registered students.

You will log into Canvas (http://canvas.utexas.edu) using your UT EID and password, and DUO authentication. The modules will take 2-3 hours to complete. Once your session begins, the Canvas modules will update to include Zoom links to the live virtual programming.

Additional Activities

Spring Family Orientation

Encourage your family to register for Spring Online Family Orientation. Spring Family Orientation is optional and will be completely self-guided. The robust programming is designed to introduce families to the University, as well as introduce resources and tools to assist them in helping their student successfully transition to UT Austin.

Spring Welcome

You have more opportunities to get connected during Spring Welcome. Spring Welcome is a series of events and programs to welcome you to UT Austin that takes place after your orientation session.
