Spring Orientation is required for incoming freshman and transfer students admitted to The University of Texas at Austin for the spring semester. Our goal is to provide you with the resources you need to succeed academically and find your place in the UT Austin community.
Spring Orientation will take place before classes start for the spring term. All required programming will take place virtually. Optional social opportunities will take place virtually and on-campus. Please make plans accordingly so that you can participate in both required and optional programming throughout your session to get the most out of your orientation experience.
More information on 2025 Spring Orientation will be available in Fall 2024.
You can view the 2024 Schedule-at-a-Glance here.
Spring Orientation is comprised of two parts: pre-orientation Canvas modules (more info below) and your two-day virtual session. There are optional in-person social opportunities also available during your Spring Orientation programming, as well as in-person experiences that will be part of Spring Welcome.
Preparing for Orientation
Review the pre-orientation checklist to make sure you are prepared for Spring Orientation
DUO Two-Factor Authentication
For security purposes, the university requires that you setup Duo Authentication in order to utilize all UT accounts such as MyStatus, MyUT, UTexas Zoom, Canvas and the orientation registration system. If you are receiving an error message that says "you are not enrolled due to the Multi-factor Duo Authentication", you must set up Duo authentication.
Canvas Modules
You will need to complete Canvas modules as part of your orientation session. Modules will be available five days prior to your virtual orientation experience on January 3.
You will log into Canvas (http://canvas.utexas.edu) using your UT EID and password, and DUO authentication. The modules will take 1-2 hours to complete. Once your session begins, the Canvas modules will update to include links to the live programming.
Student ID and Upgrade Information
New students are required to upgrade their UT EIDs. Upgrading your EID allows you to activate your Financial Aid Notification (FAN) and to conduct other important university business.
You can upgrade your EID and submit your photo for you ID card here: it.utexas.edu/idcenter
Additional Activities
