Family Orientation Travel and Housing

Once your student has received confirmation of their orientation registration, you can begin to make travel plans.

Family Orientation check-in and same day registration begin at 7 a.m. with the option to explore Longhorn Neighborhood from 7-9 a.m. Official Family Orientation programming begins at 9 a.m. with the Welcome Session. Family Orientation concludes at 5 p.m.

For most students, orientation begins with check-in early in the morning on Day 1 of their session. Incoming students should plan to be attending orientation between 8 a.m. on Day 1 and 2:30 p.m. on Day 3 (the final day).

Parking

Parking for students and families attending on-campus orientation is serviced by UT Austin’s Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) department. You will receive more information via email closer to your orientation session.

Transportation

If applicable, arrange for transportation between the airport/bus terminal and campus. The Capital Metro Route 20 is a bus route that shuttles between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and several stops in campus. New Student Services does not arrange for transportation to campus for orientation.

In addition to parking in one of the UT Austin parking garages, the UT Austin Visitor Center offers resource information about the different ways you can travel to and around campus.

Housing

While students attending an on-campus orientation session are provided housing, on-campus housing is not provided for parents and family members during orientation sessions. Families will need to make their own arrangements.

The following list of hotels offer discount rates to families coming to Austin for orientation. Please note: the links are to the direct booking site where the discounts are already loaded–they are not links to the hotels' main pages.
